The Sealed Soil
MARCH 12, 2026 | 7 PM | PHILOSOPHICAL RESEARCH SOCIETY | 7TH HOUSE SERIES | INTRODUCTION
7th House is very proud to present the restoration of a landmark of Iranian New Cinema and a work of enduring formal and historical significance: Marva Nabili’s THE SEALED SOIL (Khake Sar Beh Mohr, 1977), the earliest surviving feature directed by an Iranian woman. Produced independently and without official sanction under conditions of considerable secrecy on the eve of political upheaval in Iran, the film was completed shortly before Nabili’s departure into exile and has never been publicly screened in its country of origin. For this very special presentation we are honored to welcome mythologist Maryam Sayyad—founder and curator of the Mythos of Iran symposium—who will offer an introductory reflection on the film’s history and enduring significance.
